More and more, we find that game nights are an exciting alternative to the typical bar night. You can curate a group of your favorite humans and gather in the comfort of your home. You can actually hear what other people are saying. (If you picked the right people, this shouldn’t be a problem.) And best of all, you get the chance to unleash the competitor within and put it all on the line for glory. Or at least bragging rights amongst your friends.
We also know that game nights are a whole lot more fun with a batch of on-theme cocktails. In this list, we’ve paired some of our favorite non-alcoholic cocktails with some of our favorite board games. But we encourage you to get creative and pick recipes to go along with your games of choice.
Ritual Roy and Catan
First off, we pay homage to folk hero Rob Roy with the cocktail named in his honor. Defend your territory on the Catan board, just like the Scottish outlaw protected his homelands, all while enjoying a classic drink. We make ours zero proof with Ritual Whiskey Alternative. If you really want to get into the spirit of conquering, crank up the Game of Thrones music.
3 oz. Ritual Whiskey Alternative
1 oz. unsweetened red grape juice (low abv: sweet vermouth)
Splash of water
3 dashes bitters
Put all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Stir until well chilled and pour into a glass, with or without additional ice.
New Fashioned and Monopoly
Enjoy a classy cocktail as you expand your Monopoly empire. In our twist on the Old Fashioned, we make it zero ABV by substituting our whiskey replacement for the hard stuff. That way you won’t pass out if your game ends up lasting five hours. Do not pass go and enjoy as many as you like. BYO Monocle!
2 oz. Ritual Whiskey Alternative
1 dash plain water
2 dashes bitters
1 sugar cube or 1 oz simple syrup
Orange slice and cherry
Saturate sugar cube with bitters or add to simple syrup. Add a dash of plain water. Muddle and mix. Add ice and Ritual whiskey alternative. Stir. Garnish with an orange slice and cherry. Serve in an old fashioned glass.
Ritualtini and Codenames
